Bernie Jerome Botner, 79, Garfield, died unexpectedly January 8, 2014 at his home.

Bernie was born October 2, 1934 in Moe Township, the son of Robert and Anna Severson Botner. He graduated from Central High School in 1952.

Bernie was united in marriage to Diana Jane Vickerman on July 6, 1968 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Garfield. After their marriage the couple lived and farmed on Bernies family farm, making him the third generation to do so. Bernie also drove school bus and loved being around the kids. Bernie and Diana also built a campground on their property in 1974, which they still own and operate.

Bernie will be remembered for his kindness, his love of children, his giving spirit and willingness to help out anyone or anything in need. His friendly and outgoing attitude meant everyone he met became a friend. He greeted everyone with a warm smile and positive outlook each day.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Teri Lehner of Monticello; granddaughters, Taylor and Madison Lehner of Monticello; brother, Orville (Ardis) of Garfield; many loving nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 12 at 2 p.m. at East Moe Lutheran Church in Moe Township.

Visitation is Saturday, January 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
