Gerald J. Barker, a resident of Baton Rouge for 53 years, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at his home. He was born May 21, 1923, in Apex, N.C. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Allied Signal Chemical South Works with 34 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Voncille Barker of Baton Rouge; three sons, Glenn of Baton Rouge, Gary and wife Joanie of Long Beach, Miss., and Greg of Jackson; a grandson, Casey Barker of Long Beach; and three brothers, Walter Barker and wife Dot of Peak, S.C., Roger Barker and wife Mary of Oklahoma City, and Richard Barker and wife Jo of Spring, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hannie and Glayds Barker of North Carolina; and a sister, Emma Chadwick of North Carolina.

He was a charter member of Cedarcrest Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
