Born Sept. 24, 1920 in Greene County, he was the son of Oscar and Pearl (Reed) Watt.
He was a farmer and construction worker. He also was employed as a miner for the Peabody Coal Company for 10 years, retiring in 1983. Later he owned and operated Jack Watt Backhole Service in Owen Company He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, El Shaddai Emmaus Community and was a private pilot.
Survivors include his wife, Ruthanne Watt of Freedom; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Phil Whitt of Linton, Gena and Stan Stephens of Coal City, Jackie and Garold Godsey of Bellefontaine, Ohio and Angie and Keith Morris of Gosport; two sons and daughter-in-law, Alan D. Watt of Harrisburg, Ill., and John and Deborah Watt of Freedom; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bob Hines of Indianapolis; one brother-in-law, of Odell Watkins of Bloomington; 15 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Velma Ruth Watkins; one daughter-in-law, Leah Jo Hardesty Watt; one grandson-in-law, Tim Voisin; and his parents.
Funeral services will be at Heritage Baptist Church in Coal City at 1 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Steve Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery.
