Rose June Shaw Wilson left this world on January 4th at the age of 90 after a lengthy illness. Born in Harlingen, Texas, with bright red hair in the month of June, she earned her lovely name. She was raised in Raymondville, Texas, where her father served as a deputy constable. After her father was killed in the line of duty when June was only three years old, the young family was forced to bloom into self-made women who were strong and self-sufficient. June put herself through Edinburg Junior College, working in the faculty cafeteria for room and board. During World War II, she worked as a bookkeeper at a Raymondville produce company and learned to fly a plane in order to deliver the payroll to company employees in nearby states. She would later attend Texas A&I University in Kingsville and The University of Texas at Austin, where she received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.
June met and married the great love of her life Henry Elmer "Cuz" Wilson, who was a roughneck for Humble Oil on the King Ranch. They started their roots in Kingsville, Texas in the 1950s where June started her teaching career. Together, they created their own family of four strong daughters. In the 1980s, Exxon transferred them to New Orleans and she continued her passion for teaching. She and Henry enjoyed a long retirement in Louisiana filled with traveling, church, crafts, and many family gatherings.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Nan Wilson of Canyon Lake TX, Lu Ann "Sandy" Kirk (Keenon) of San Antonio TX, and Carol Shaw Easley (John) of Walker LA, one niece Leslie King of Harlingen TX and four grandsons. Rose June was preceded in death by her husband Henry Elmer Wilson, parents Leslie Eugene Shaw and Nancy Etta LeGrand Shaw, daughter Rebecca Jean Wilson, sister Lali Lucienne Terry, and brother L.E. Shaw.
