He was born Dec. 10, 1916, In Miami County to Walter and Drucella Newman Samspon. He lived in Miami County all his life and was employed in the line department at Peru City Utilities.
In 1937 he married Eileen Kester; she survives.
Also surviving are sons Kenneth, Jeffrey, Mark, Richard Jr., Vincent, all of Peru, and Gary of Logansport and Brett of Lexington; daughters Kaysleta Orazam of Cleveland, Ohio and Sonja Campbell and Carolline Carson of Peru. A sister, Mariam Case, also lives in Peru. He left 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
