Retired and a member of Carpenters Union Local 1098, he died at 6:49 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 85, a resident and native of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant and veteran of World War II. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visiting at the funeral home chapel, 10 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Vic Messina. Interment in GreenoaksMemorial Park. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Phil Phistry Jr., Baton Rouge; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William J. Colligan Jr., Baton Rouge, and Thomas L. and Della Colligan, Donaldsonville; four grandchildren, Gina Smileyand spous e Terry Smiley, Trey Phistry, Ryan Phistry and Tommy Colligan Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Austin Smiley. Preceded in death by parents, William and Ethel Hogg Colligan; and a son, John Patrick Colligan. He was a member of VFW Zachary Taylor Post No. 3784.
