Mass of the Resurrection for Helen Agan Rhodes, 82, of Lufkin will be celebrated Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Reverend Victor Brown, Reverend William J. Slight, Reverend Paul G. Rainville and Reverend Joe Kannampuzha officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Rhodes was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 8, 1927 to the late Amanda (Long) Agan and Arthur Agan and died on December 27, 2009. She moved to Lufkin with her family in 1941, graduated from Lufkin High School in 1943 and attended Pineywoods Business College. She was employed by Perkins-Goodwin Co. of Lufkin, prior to her marriage in 1950 to Dr. B.D. Rhodes. She was devoted to her family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Besides being with family and friends, Mrs. Rhodes enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home, music, dancing and reading. She was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and a member of St. Andrew's Altar Guild.

Surviving Mrs. Rhodes is her husband of 60 years, Dr. B.D. Rhodes and children: David Rhodes and wife Karen of Ft. Worth, Dr. Dale Rhodes of Dallas, John Rhodes and wife Julie of Lufkin, Jane Rhodes of San Antonio. Grandchildren: Ragan Rhodes of Ft. Worth, Clint, Emily and Claire Oncken of San Antonio, Julianne and Jacob Rhodes of Lufkin. Sister, Nancy Agan Owen of Longview, Brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Sherra Agan of Crosby, sister-in-law, Kay Agan Highnote of Lufkin, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Peppard, brother, John Agan and brothers-in-law, Ron Owen and Carl Peppard.

Pallbearers include: Clint Oncken, Jacob Rhodes, Mitch Agan, Billy Agan, Kevin Mantooth and Blake Evans. Honorary pallbearers include: Dr. Dan Spivey, Mr. Ernest Bartlett, Jr., Dr. Nash Hogue, Dr. H.L. Hughey, Mr. Floyd Marsellos, Mr. Paul Mayberry, Mr. Bob Morgan, Mr. Joe Pearson, Mr. Billy Robertson, Mr. Frank Stevenson and Dr. W.D. Thames.
