Father: Earl Adair Merrell
Mother: Mary Fay Costner Merrell
Spouse: Richard Hardy
Early Life: Janis grew up in the humble, desert town of Animas, New Mexico.
Education: Animas High School, 1970 | BYU
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Following high school graduation, Janis attended Brigham Young University, where she met her husband, Richard Hardy. They were married August 18, 1971, in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. They raised their family of five children in the beautiful farming community of Oakley, Idaho. In 2001, they moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, to be near their children and grandchildren. Janis was employed as a receptionist at Alpine Women's Clinic in American Fork for six years. She then devoted her time to assisting in the care of her elderly mother and two grandchildren with disabilities. She lived a life of service in the LDS Church, in her community and to anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She served as Primary, Young Women and Relief Society President. She was instrumental in establishing the Goose Creek Run-Off, a home-town 10K that started the running careers of many of her friends and family and which she managed to perfection for 15 years. During her illness, she never lost her cheerful, positive attitude or her desire to serve others. She had complete trust in the Lord and His hand in her life.
