Lessie Mae Alexander was born to James William Alexander and his second wife, Mollie Ray. She first married Henry Lee "Shorty" Buice in 1930 in Dekalb County, GA. They lived in Decatur, GA. Shorty died in 1958. They had two sons.

Her second husband was Alonzo Hugh Pop Crane. Lessie Mae and "Pop" Crane lived in the Trickum (Mountain Park) area of Lilburn (Gwinnett Co). Lessie Mae was instrumental in organizing Mountain Park Baptist Church. They lived in a big farm house. She died at age 52 at Georgia Baptist Hospital after surgery. Lessie Mae is remembered as an excellent seamstress and was known for her beautiful crocheted handiwork.
