Nora Jones Cain was born at Soldier, Kansas, June 6, 1887 and passed away Nov. 15, 1963 at the Whiteway Nursing Home in Wetmore. She was the oldest of five children born to Ulysses Grant Jones and Martha Jones. When a small girl she moved with her parents to the Vliets and Vermillion communities where she resided most of her life. She was married to Frank Crouse and to this union one son Lester was born, and an infant who died at birth.
She had been an invalid for the past six years and bore her suffering quietly, always being considerate of others, rather than of herself. She was the one the family turned to for help in their sorrow and needs. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Vermillion.
On December 18, 1925, she was married to Frank E. Cain at Centralia. They resided all their married life in and around Centralia. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Frank, son Lester Crouse and wife, granddaughter, Mrs. Maxine Hardy, grandson Bobby Crouse and their families all of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Ray, Kansas City, Mo.; a number of other relatives and friends and four great-grandchildren. She was tenderly cared for by her husband Frank until a few months before her passing when she was taken to the Whiteway Nursing Home.
Funeral services were Monday afternoon in the Vermillion Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Plummer was in charge of the service. Mildred Schrair and Marjorie Johnson sang, accompanied by Mrs. Ethel Billings.
Pallbearers were Floyd Curtis, Raymond Blair, Paul Norton, Joe Anderson, Emet Hightower, Dale Bryan, Bob Kirkman and Travers Ayers. Burial was at the Vermillion cemetery.
