BUTTERNUT—Claus A. Kraetke, 71, of Butternut, died Wednesday February 14, 2001, at his home. He was born December 11, 1929, in Berlin, Germany, the son of Max and Margarete (Schuler) Kraetke.
He is survived by his wife Maryann of Butternut; two sons: Claus H. (Judy) Kraetke of Butternut; and Patrick S. (Sarah) Kraetke of Shell Lake; four grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob, Mitchell, and Kristen; a sister: Sybil (Al) Schroeder, Skokie, Ill.; and several nieces.
His early life and schooling were in Berlin, moving to Canada in 1950 where he worked in area logging camps. In 1954 he moved to Illinois and worked as a roofer. He married Maryann Mullally on June 22, 1963, in Morton Grove, Ill. The family moved to Butternut in 1977 where they became the owners and operators of the Midway Bar until retiring in 1996. He was a avid fisherman and enjoyed the company of many people. He was a member of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage Club and a life long member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut, with Father James Jackson officiating.
Burial will follow at the St. Cecelia Cemetery in Butternut.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
