Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at five o'clock from the Presbyterian Church for Thomas A. Harris, 69, who died Tuesday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital after a three years' illness. Rev. Richard Ryan officiated at the rites and interment was in the Garden of Memories, under the direction of Wade Mahan. A native of Alabama, he had come to Fort Worth with his parents when he was seven years of age, an had resided there for many years, attended the public schools and the Fort Worth University, which is now Texas Christian University.
After choosing his career as a manager of hotels his first position was in Mineral Wells, and then went to the Majestic Hotel in Hot Springs, Ark. He returned to Fort Worth as the manager of the Westbrook Hotel, remaining there for 15 years.
He came to Kerrville in 1937 as the manager of the Bluebonnet Hotel, and held that position until he retired on account of his health, in 1951. He was widely known throughout the country for his efficient and courteous management of these hotels.
His survivors include his widow of the home address; one daughter, Mrs. Earle Wright of Houston, a grandson; three sisters, Mmes. R. G. Martin, Fort Worth; Guy Carter, San Antonio and Earline Cobb of Port Arthur, and three brothers, A. K. Harris, Emmett Harris and Sherod Harris, all of Fort Worth.
The family expressed their appreciation of the beauty and loveliness which flowers convey at a time like this, but asked that those who desired to send flowers, to donate to the Memorial Fund of the Presbyterian Church instead.
Pallbearers were Richard Jones, Forrest Salter, George Cowden, W. H. Cowden, P. F. Stovall and Manley Cooper Jr.
