Frederick was the first of his brothers to enlist with General Clark on August 29, 1777, in Captain Thomas Buck's Dunmore Militia in Woodstock, Dunmore (later Shenandoah) County, Virginia while his brothers enlisted on March 1, 1778.
According to the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) all three brothers were awarded 108 acres and later sold their claims.

Frederick's early life involved him in a historic event of great importance to America. About the time General George Washington and the Continental Army were emerging from a terrible winter at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, George Rogers Clark was dispatched from Virginia with a small military force to break British control in the so-called north west territory in the Illinois County.
Among the 178 recruits were three of Hans Jacob Honaker's sons: Frederick, Henry and Peter. The three were each granted 180 acres along the Ohio River in Indiana. They later sold their claims.
Frederick returned to Shenandoah County, Virginia where he paid taxes from 1782 and 1783. He bought 243 acres in Rockingham County, Virginia where he paid taxes from 1786 to 1801.
Frederick married Elizabeth Golladay February 28, 1782 in Shenodoah, Virginia. She died about 1794 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
He married Rachel Elizabeth Wiseman September 28, 1795 in Rockingham, Virginia. In 1799, Frederick and Rachel moved to Monroe County and bought a farm from Edward Kennan near Rehoboth Meeting House in the Sinks. In 1800, Frederick bought 57 acres on Lick Run,
In Febraury 12, 1804 Frederick and Elizabeth (Rachel) sold 20 acres on the lower end of their property to John Adair. By 1805, Frederick owned 279 acres in Monroe County valued at 50 dollars an acre. Frederick and his brother-in-law, John R. Wiseman became noted gunsmiths as did Frederick's brother Abraham Honaker.
In 1988, a Revolutionary War marker was placed for him in the Rehoboth Church Cemetery at Union, Monroe County, West Virginia
