John Alley Dies at 85

John F. Alley, 85, Douglass, died this morning at Newton Memorial hospital in Winfield.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Augusta Church of Christ. Bill McCormick will officate. Burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.

Alley was born August 20, 1897, in Eureka Springs, Arka., to James and Rebecca Layne Alley. He was married Sept. 24, 1918 to Blanche Dennett in Wichita. She survives. They are life-long residents of the Douglass/Augusta area. He was a retired farmer and building contractor.

He was a member of the Augusta Church of Christ. He had also served as a deacon and elder for 19 years in the Douglass Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, survivors are a son, Lawrence of Douglass; a daughter, Lola Mae Pierson of Douglass; two sisters, Ethel Paul of Wichita and Lyda Alley of Wichita; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the Augusta Church of Christ building fund.
