Obituary - George W. Sterling passed away this morning at about 9:00 o'clock at his home, 302 West Perry Street, of heart trouble and complications, after confinement to his bed for the last three weeks, at the age of 74 years. The funeral services will be held at the home on Monday afternoon at 2:00, with the Rev. W.E. Mundell officiating. Interment will be in Belvidere Cemetery. Mr. Sterling was born in Cuthogue, L.I., August 3, 1849. He came to Cherry Valley at the age of 12 years and lived in the family of Josiah Heath until his marriage to Miss Eliza Tobyne, January 27, 1874. He resided on his farm until fifteen years ago, when he moved with his family to Belvidere. Mrs. Sterling died four years ago next March. Five children were born, one son dying in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Ben Spearling, May 31, 1912. There survive the daughters, Mrs. A.J. Van Epps and Mrs. F.S. Pearse of Belvidere township, and Miss Mabel at home. There also remain three sisters and eight grandsons. Mr. Sterling had been a deacon in the First Baptist Church for several years. He was an esteemed and valuable citizen and his demise will be deplored by many friends.
