Dorothy Ruth Bruns was born in El Verano California March 14, 1915. She was the daughter of Hattie Dobbel Bruns and George Bruns, step-daughter of Michael A. Bohlig. Dorothy was the granddaughter of Hayward pioneers John and Gaschen Dobbel who owned 1020 acres along Highland Boulevard and Dobbel Avenue above the present site of California State University. Dorothy met and fell in love with John Emil Kennett at their best friends wedding, Dorothy was maid of honor and John best man. Dorothy and John married on September 25, 1938 at Eden Congregational Church, Hayward California. Dorothy had three children and one sister, Viola Garms Kolb. Dorothy died July 31, 1999 in Walnut Creek California. Her ashes rest next to her mother Hattie Elizabeth Bohlig, grandparents John and Gaschen Dobbel and her uncle George Dobbel, in the John Dobbel Family Plot, Lone Tree Cemetery, Hayward Calfiornia.
