Carol "C.E." Bon Durant. Born April 26, 1930, in Pueblo. Passed away Dec. 24, 2013. C.E was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Patricia, in October of 2013; father, Kenneth B. Bon Durant; mother, Bertha (Hutchinson); in-laws, Fritz and Marie Erps; sister, Alberta Bon Durant; brothers-in-law, Fritz Erps Jr., Jack Mitchell and Byron Millington. Survived by his children, Mike (Shelia Parker) Bon Durant, Brenda (Terry) Scheid, Pam (Kent) Ervin and Audrey (Mike) Smidt; grandchildren, Clayton (Maria) Bon Durant, Donny (Tracy) Scheid, Cody (Rikki) Scheid, Dusty Scheid, Jayme and Jayce Ervin, Kaeli (Dave) Niedbalski and Amanda Smidt; great-grandsons, Wyatt and Chase Scheid; sisters, Lila Mitchell and Harriet (Larry) Grim; sister-in-law, Marilyn Millington; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. C.E. served in the U.S. Army Reserves from April 1955 to April of 1990, as a Master Sergeant. He received Soldier of the Year in 1966 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1989. C.E. was a dedicated Boy Scout Troop leader for Troop No. 39 for many years; he helped develop many fine young men in the Pueblo County community! C.E. retired from the Colorado State Hospital as a security guard in November of 1983. C.E. enjoyed ranching and farming, and seemed happiest when he was doing such on his family's land in the Pueblo County area, as well as his parents' farm in Colorado City. C.E. was a master repairman and pretty handy mechanic, and enjoyed working on his various pieces of farm equipment. One would always say, "Carol could fix anything." (Or. as some would say, break everything!) C.E. was a 4-H leader and also served as the Swine Superintendent for the Pueblo County Fair, for many years. C.E. was inducted into the Pueblo County 4-H Leaders Hall of Fame in 2006 and received several awards for his years served as a 4-H leader. At Carol's "C.E's" request, cremation has taken place. Memorial service, 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel. Reception will take place after the service at the funeral home. The family extends a special thanks to the Minnequa Medical Center staff for Carol's "C.E.'s" care. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com.
