Donald was born on February 24, 1947, a son of Maynard and Helen (Bloms) Korgel in Minot, ND. He spent his first eight years of school at Eureka Elementary Country School and graduated from Minot High School in 1965.
On October 19, 1967, Don was united in marriage to Janealee "Jane" Roerick at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. They made their home on the Korgel family dairy farm located north of Minot, where they raised their two sons Shannon and Sheldon. In 1978, he began working at Schatz Crossroads Truck Stop. He started his career in trucking with various companies, Koble and Sons, Earthmovers and Strata Corporation until his retirement in 2009 due to health issues with his wife. Jane passed away on November 6, 2010. Don continued to live in Minot.
He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Eureka Township Board.
Don enjoyed hobby farming, working with his cattle, and had a love for his many dogs over the years.

Son Sheldon Korgel, Minot; sisters: Diane (Danny) Schatz, Fargo, Jen (Glen) Bayne, Minot; brother Lyle (Nancy) Korgel, Kennewick, WA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ambrose (Charlene) Roerick Jr., Bismarck, Dennis (JoAnn) Roerick, Minot, Casper (Sharon) Roerick, Minot, Daryl (Frances) Roerick, Bismarck; close friend Lorna Spencer, Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janealee, son Shannon, mother and father-in-law Ambrose and Frances Roerick, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Duane and Mavis Roerick, nephew Dennis Roerick and niece Shallah Bunyard.
