Victoria -- Joseph T. Pfeifer, 85, died Wednesday, July 26, at his home in Victoria. He was born Oct. 28, 1903 in Victoria to John J. and Amelia (Riedel) Pfeifer.

He married Rose Lang May 22, 1928 at Victoria. She died April 5, 1980. He married Mary (Lang) Riedel June 1, 1986 at Victoria.

He was a retired vice president of Farmers National Bank, Victoria, retiring in 1983 after 41 years with the bank. He was a city clerk for the City of Victoria for 17 years. He was a graduate of St. Benedict's College, Atchison, and taught in county schools in Ellis County from 1928 until 1932. From 1932 until 1942, he was county school superintendent.

He was a past member of the board of directors of St. Anthony Hospital, Hays. He also was an original member and was currently on the board of St. John Rest Home, Victoria, and St. John's of Hays. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Secular Franciscan Order, all of Victoria. He also was a member of the Sunflower Volga-German Society, Hays.

Survivors incude his wife of the home, one son, Donald, Victoria; two daughters, Rose Windholz of Victoria, Donna Simoneau of Logan; three stepsons, Leon Riedel of Salina, Vernon Riedel of Victoria, Myron Riedel of Park; five stepdaughters, Lois Albers, Marilyn Augustine, Elaine Sanders, Twila Riedel, all of Hays, Jean Harp of Marion; three brothers, Ray Pfeifer of Victoria, Wendelin Pfeifer of Rogers, Ark., Alvin Pfeifer of Sun City, Ariz.; one sister, Regina Bennett of Los Angeles; six grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and eight sisters.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Father Clem Neaf officiated; burial was in St. Fidelis Cemetery.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Adam Rupp, Al Basgall, Norbert Dreiling, Lawrence Weigel, John G. Dreiling and Don Curl. Casket Bearers were Carl Windholz, Joe Sinoneau, Larry Wittman, Vernon Riedel, Charles Alberts Jr., and Kenneth Sanders.
