Laura was the daughter of Sterling Brooks and married Robert Mansel March 18, 1869, in Bullock County, Alabama.
Robert brought to the marriage children Lucinda and Thadeus Mancel from his first marriage to Martha Floyd. In the Union Springs Herald Union Springs, Alabama, Wednesday, August 14, 1878, pg 3; Lucinda and Thadeus are listed as minors under age 14, living in Madison County, Texas with their father, among heirs of the Tempy Floyd estate. Their mother Martha is not listed.

Laura and Robert were the parents of Beulah & Lucy Clara all born in Pike County, Alabama. The other three children were born in Leon County: Wiley Robert, Samuel Tildon and Margaret.
When Laura & Bob arrived in Texas, they first settled in the Plainview Community in Madison County. Later they moved into Leon County near Flynn.
