Jules owned his own saloon by 1890, and met and married Nellie Marston, daughter of pioneering Marston family. To them was born Mary Fern and Catherine. Troubles within their marraige caused Jules to abonden his family and Woodland in 1896. He set for Los Angeles where he married Stella in 1897, and had a son Theodore. His wife, Nellie, after his abandonment, entered herself as a prostitute in a gang known as Hillertown ran by Madam Jennie Singer.
Jule was a tall man with brown hair, grey eyes, and light skin according to 1892 Woodland voter registration.
