(from obituary) Mr. Geary was 76 years of age, having been born in Keeseville, New York on February 1, 1857. He came to Ironwood in 1885 and lived here continuously until his death. In the early days of the city he conducted a grocery store here, in partnership with his brother, the late Maurice Geary. He was elected road commissioner soon after the organization of Gogebic County, and in this capacity laid out the old county road between Ironwood and Bessemer. He served as one of the first police officers of Ironwood and was active in the organization of the first fire department in the city. In recent years Mr. Geary was engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He was a large holder of real estate in the city and the Geary addition on the north side was named for him. On August 29, 1889, Mr. Geary and Miss Mary Ready, then serving as a teacher in the public schools of the city, were married. She survives him, together with four children.
