Alcorn - Of that fatal disease to old people, pneumonia, at 9 o'clock Sunday night, Mrs. Mary A. Alcorn, aged 69 years. Her maiden name was Walker, and she was the relict of Alfred Alcorn, whom she survived nearly 15 years. Confessing religion at an early age, she joined the Presbyterian Church and a life of earnest, devoted piety, won for her a crown of righteousness, which by the eye of faith she beheld before passing through the valley of the shadow of death. During her illness and while her mind was still unclouded, she spoke of her willingness to die, and of her confidence that a better life awaited her, urging those that were near and dear to her to live so that their end could be like hers. Of the children who survive her, James W. Alcorn, Mrs. T. B. Lewis and Mrs. W. H. Higgins, with whom she lived, had the mournful satisfaction of being with her in her last moments. Only Mrs. Mollie Parks was absent, and she was detained at her home in the West by the snow blockade to sorrow alone. The loss of a dear mother at any stage of life is a fearful one and while those who are now called on to mourn have been greater blessed in the prolongation of her life than falls to the lot of many, their grief is none the less deep and in their affliction, numbers of sympathetic friends offer sincere and heartfelt condolence. The funeral will not occur till 10 o'clock Wednesday, a telegram having been received from Mrs. Parks yesterday afternoon, that she was en route. Rev. I. S. McElroy will conduct the service at the Presbyterian Church and also at the Cemetery.
