Adele Eggers Roosevelt

GALVESTON - Adele Eggers Roosevelt, 75, died June 19, 2001, at her residence. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2001, at the funeral home with the Rev. John Donovan officiating.

Mrs. Roosevelt was born April 28,1926, in Galveston. She was the daughter of Dr. G. W. N. Eggers and his wife, Edith. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, and graduated from the University of Texas in
Austin with a Bachelor of arts in English. At the University of Texas she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was a member of the Junior League of Galveston. She served as a community member on the Institutional Review Board at UTMB. for over twenty years. She was an avid bridge player and gardener. She was renowned for her early morning walks along the seawall.

Mrs. Roosevelt is survived by her son, William L. Roosevelt, of Angleton; daughters, Edith R. Purgason, of
Sugar Land, and Dr. Genie E. Roosevelt, of Chicago; grandchildren, K. C., George and Anne Purgason, of Sugarland; and her brother, Dr.G. W. N. Eggers Jr., of Columbia, Missouri.
