Remmeren de Jong married on 11 May 1899 in the municipality Westdongeradeel, province Friesland, Netherlands at the age of 22 years to the one year older Jantje de Jong, born in Wierum too, daughter of David Kornelis de Jong and Tjitske Jans Westerhof.
Remmeren and Jantje de Jong had the following four sons:
* David [Cornel], 1901 Blija, Ferwerderadeel, Friesland - 1967 Providence, Rhode Island;
* Remmeren "Raymond", 1902 Blija - 1982 Grandville, Kent County, Michigan;
* Meindert, 1906 Wierum - 1991 Allegan, Michigan;
* Cornelis David "Neil", 1911 Wierum - 2008 Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.
The Christian Reformed family De Jong emigrated on 16 May 1914 from Wierum, Friesland, Netherlands to Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. They arrived on 2 June 1914 on the SS Nieuw Amsterdam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. In Grand Rapids they lived successively in four houses in the vicinity of Wealthy Street and Diamond Avenue. The De Jongs joined the nearby Dennis Avenue Christian Reformed Church and found their lack of being able to speak English of little inconvenience in the Dutch speaking neighborhoods of Grand Rapids; in fact Remmeren's wife Jantje never learned to speak English. The four boys Americanized quickly, but initially endured hazing as newly-arrived immigrants.

In 1930 Raymond De Jong (53), his wife Jennie (54), their sons Meinard (24) and Corniel (19) lived in Walker, a northwestern suburb of Grand Rapids, Kent County, in the western part of Michigan.
In April 1940 Raymond De Jong (63, bricklayer and carpainter), his wife Jennie (64) and his sister-in-law Jessie Steamstra (71, Netherlands, widow) lived at a rented home at Benefit Street in Ward 3 of Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. The couple De Jong lived on 1 April 1935 at the same place, Jessie Steamstra in Friesland, Wisconsin.
His wife Jantje alias Jennie died in 1953 at the age of about 77 years, very probably in or around Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. Remmeren alias Raymond had in 1961 and 1963 strokes and died about 26 August 1967 at the age of 91 years, also very probably in Grand Rapids or surroundings. His son David died nine days after his death, on 5 September 1967 from cancer, in Providence, Rhode Island.
