Willis Elliott was the first-born of Thomas Elliott (1760 or 1761 - 1805) and Elizabeth Mayers Elliott (1770 - 1805). His mother's maiden name may actually be Wilkins

He had two younger brothers:
Edward Elliott (1794-1862)
William David Elliott (1795-1865)

They were all born in a portion of Warren County which would later become Jefferson County, GA. His father was a Revolutionary War Patriot, serving as a Lieutenant and "Aide-de-camp" for General Frances Marion. Probably about 1799, the family moved to Spanish West Florida. It is likely that his mother died in Georgia and his father in Spanish West Florida.

Willis served with his brother William in the 10 & 20 Consolidated Regiment of the Louisiana Militia with Andrew Jackson during the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Willis was a private, his brother was the Quarter Master.

Willis married Delia Bushnell in St. Landry Parish, LA on 19 Sep 1820. She was born in either 1797 or 1805 in Evangeline Parish and died in 1823 in St. Landry. They probably did not have children.

He then re-married Abigaile Leberge on 18 Nov 1824 also in St. Landry Parish. She was born in 1808 in Opelousas, St. Landry and died there. They had the following children:

Thomas Elliott (b: 1832; d: in childhood)
Oran Elliott (b: January 5,1838 in Moundville, near Washington, La. ; d: April 27,1924 in Pine Prairie, La.)
Elize Elliott (b: 1840; d: 1862)
Suzanne (or Susan) Elliott (b: About 1850; d: February 18, 1908). Buried in Butters Cemetery, Forest Hill, Rapides Parish, La. She was married to William Randall Eldred.

In 1830, they were living in Grand Prairie, St. Landry Parish. By 1860, they were farming in or near Opelousas, St. Landry Parish where he died at the age of 67.
