Emil Nathaniel Danielson, son of
Carl Johan and Amanda Christina
Carlson Danielson, was born May 30,
1901 in Hayes Township, Ida County,
one and a half miles north of Kiron. He
was the fifth of five children born to the
Danielsons. He attended school at Hayes
No. 7 in Ida County and Wheeler No. 4
in Sac County. He also attended the
Kiron High School. Both parents were
Swedish immigrants and the children
spoke Swedish until entering school.
Emil married Jessie Long in 1926.
They farmed in the Kiron area until
1932 when they moved to the Schaller
area. In 1949 Emil retired from farming
and engaged in farm management for a
number of years. In 1954 he founded the
First Federal Savings and Loan at Storm
Lake, where he and his wife were now
residing. He served as president until
1972 and as chairman of the board for
nearly ten additional years.
Jessie died in 1972. Emil was married
to Alta Bradshaw Stinson on Nov.
30, 1972. Alta died Apr. 27, 1993.
Emil served on the Eureka Township
Board in Sac County and he was an
original member of the Sac County Rural
Electrification committee. He was a
member of the Sac County Farm Bureau
for many years and served as president
one year. He belonged to the Order
of the Arch at Buena Vista College from
1963 to 1965. Emil was a member of
Rotary for 40 years, a Masonic Lodge
member for 52 years, and a member of
the Valley of Sioux City Consistory,
receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
He was also a member of the Ross Moor
Shrine Club, Walnut Creek, Calif.
During his early years, Emil was a
member of the Bethel Lutheran Church,
Kiron. His was the last class to have
received confirmation instruction in
Swedish. He became a member of the
Presbyterian Church at Schaller and later
a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian.
Church in Storm Lake. At the time of
his death he was a member of Grace
Presbyterian Church at Walnut Creek,
Calif. Emil served on church boards and
other committees of the churches where
he was a member. He served as chairman
of the building committee, as a
trustee and was an Elder for life at the
Grace Presbyterian Church.
Preceding him in death were his
parents, his wives, Jessie and Alta; brothers,
Oscar Alfred Danielson and Edwin
Johan Danielson; a sister, Anna Sophia
and a niece, Maria Belle Rosenquist
Wright.
