Alexia "Alice" Damaskos (nee Karas), age 86, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Avalon Springs in Valparaiso, IN.

Alexia is survived by her children: Sandy (Paul) Zale of Hebron, IN and Reverend Aristotle (Debbie) Damaskos of Toledo, Ohio. She is the most loved grandmother of: PJ (Penny) Zale, Christopher (Maggie) Zale, Ali (Ryan) Stevens, Harold Titak, Eleni (Ken) Bachorski, William (Dionna) Damaskos; great-grandmother of: Nathan and Paige Bachorski, Zoe Dowd, Isaac Zale and Chevy Stevens; the sister of: Martha Malham and George Karas; many cousins, nephews nieces and god-children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; daughter, Shirley Titak; son, John Bikos; parents: Steve and Theodora Karas; brother, Mickey Karas.

Alexia was born in Gary, Indiana to Steve and Theodora Karas and graduating from Horace Mann High School, she lived a rich life. She was a former member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Cathedral in Merrillville. Upon moving to Clearwater, Florida in the 70's, she got involved at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, where she was a Philoptochos Board member. During the 80's she returned to Northwest Indiana where she was instrumental in forming St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Alexia was an active member of the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos in both Clearwater and Gary, holding the position of Chapter President in Gary. She served on the District Lodge for District 12, was Maids of Athena Advisor, and was the Grand President of Daughters of Penelope in 1969.

As a successful entrepreneur, alongside of her husband Bill of 45 years. The owned several businesses; B&M Bar, the Dart Inn Tavern, and Alexia's Jewelry in both Indiana and Florida. She also worked at Troxell's Jewelry and was a real estate agent in Gary. Upon moving back to Florida in the 80's, she worked in fine jewelry at Maas Brothers, Burdines and Macy's in Clearwater and Bloomindales in Chicago and Palo Alto, CA. She and Bill both enjoyed traveling extensively often at a drop of a hat.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Geisen Funeral and Cremation Services, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN 46410 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. The Trisagion Service will be offered at 5:00 PM, followed by the Daughters of Penelope tribute.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN with Fr. Theodore Poteres and Rev. Aristotle Damaskos officiating. Interment will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN.

The family would like to thank the staff of Avalon Care for their special care they gave to "the lady in pink" as she was nicked named.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Cathedral Renovation Fund.
