KINGSPORT — P. Fred Carter, 85, of Kingsport, went to be in the arms of the Lord and with his loving wife Vel on Wednesday (May 14, 2008) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a member of the Little Brick Church of Rye Cove, Va. He was a loving father, brother and grandparent, and also an avid UT fan.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Velma Hill Carter; his father, Loid A. Carter and mother, Clara Fraizer Carter; brothers, Raymond Carter, James Carter and Roy Carter; sisters, Elsie Rhoton and Frances Morrison.

He is survived by his children, Freddy R. Carter, Sandra Carter McLeod, Jim E. Carter and wife, Debby and Tommy K. Carter; three sisters, Agnes Sturgill, Mae Sparks and Margie Williams; grandchildren, Aundria Carter Hatfield and husband, Scott, Kristy Hensley Rikard and husband, David, Danielle Carter Proctor and husband, Marc, Brooke Hensley Rowlett and husband, Jeff, Justin Carter and wife, Shannon, Misty Cox; great-grandchildren, Ariana Carter, Hunter Proctor, Logan Proctor, Michael Rikard, Andrew Barton, Tyler Hatfield, Tanner Hatfield, Carter Proctor and Chloe Hatfield; several nieces and nephews, special niece Judy Carter Miller.

The family would like to issue a special thanks to Dr. Mack Matthews, Dr. Mike Boggan, Dr. Joe Smiddy and staff at Wellmont HVMC.

Visitation will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Gary Addington officiating. A committal service will follow in the Oak Hill Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Hatfield, Marc Proctor, David Rikard, Jeff Rowlett, Justin Carter and Glen Armstrong.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bridge Home No Kill Animal Resuce, P.O. Box 654, Blountville, Tenn. 37617. 423-239-5237.
