1870 Census: John Riley Bruce 31 [Carolyn's brother]; Elizabeth 26 wife; ch: Ezekiel 8; James H. 7; Maria 6; Wm A. 4; Charles 7 mos + Susan Bruce (Andrus) 8 living with relatives [she is living w/her Uncle & Aunt, but why?]& Albert Steele 17 works on farm.
NOTE: Why is Susan living with her Uncle and Aunt at age 8? Her mother Caroline does not die until 14 Aug 1880.
1870 Census lists James H. Andrews [Andrus] 56, Caroline (Bruce) 40, Joseph M. [Martin Jasper] 22 son ($500 value of personal estate; not our Joseph Lee), Joseph Dix (adopted) 7. Why would Caroline's daughter Susan age 8 not be living with her mother?
Married John Flavis McElroy who was born Feb 15, 1859 and died Mar 29, 1931.
Both of them are buried at the family cemetery, Griffith Cemetery on Denvy Smith's farm at Grahamville, McCracken County, KY; they do not have markers but we have a plot of the cemetery and we can tell where each grave is as some do have stones per Diana Yancey's letter dated Sep 2, 1980.
Susan did not use the Andrus name. She probably did this to spite her father who opposed her marriage. As a result, Susan may have been disinherited; she is NOT mentioned in her father's will.
NOTE: On the 1870 census she is listed as Susan Bruce age 8 not Susan Andrus.
