Margarett Ruth Whisnant Queen, 79, of 2725 Hollis Road, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Bruce Whisnant and Nettie Warlick Whisnant.

She retired in 2006 from Cleveland County Schools, where she worked in food services at Union School. Mrs. Queen was a lifelong member of Polkville United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Polkville High School. She loved gardening, cooking and camping at Lake James.

In addition to her parents, her husband, J. Rheid Queen, six brothers, Foch, Dewey, Boyd, Max, Albert and David Whisnant and five sisters, Goldie Friant, Kathleen Bridges, Susie Johnson, Dorcas Cornwell and Fern Willis preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Michael Queen and wife, Cindy, of Polkville; a daughter, Carolyn Hill and husband, Jim, of Polkville; a sister, Clevie Spangler of Lawndale; three grandchildren, Jennifer Hudson and husband, Steve, of Bostic, Justin Queen and wife, Stephanie, of Carrboro and Margaret Kendall Hill of Polkville; and a great-grandchild, Avery Hudson.

A special thanks to Drs. Sanchez, Zeller and Yen and the ICU staff of Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral: Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at Polkville United Methodist Church;

Burial: Polkville United Methodist Church Cemetery
