She was the wife of the Rev. Kenneth R. Espenshade, of Landis Homes. Born on January 12, 1931, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Rev. Irvin and Martha Hoover of Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of Lancaster Brethren in Christ Church.

She received her B.S. in nursing from Goshen (Ind.) College. She also taught licensed practical nurses at the intermediate unit in Lebanon. While she raised two sons, she was active in teaching children at the various churches that her husband pastored. She coached Bible quizzing, and she started a Wednesday evening club program at Ephrata United Zion Church. She volunteered and then worked at Elizabeth Jenkins Early Childhood Center, Millersville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Kevin Espenshade, married to Theresita, of San Antonio, Texas; Keith Espenshade, married to Linda, of Lancaster, Pa.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn Clinch, wife of Nelson, of Lebanon. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by three brothers, David, Daniel and Herbert Hoover.

A public memorial service will be held on December 27, at 2 p.m., at the Lancaster Brethren in Christ Church, 1865 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster. The internment will be private at the convenience of the family.
