Laura and Mary have a double headstone which reads, "With prospects bright and budding fair, Just rising into bloom; Death came in an untimely hour and snatched them to the tomb."

OBIT:

Lee--At Pendleton, October 31, 1882, Mary Luella Lee, daughter of J. J. and Mary Lee, after a lingering illness, in which she was a great sufferer.

Luella's life was one of great promise, like a bright morning, with a cloudless sun; yet that sun had set to earthly things e'er it reached its noon. Sorrow would be added to sorrow, and no light would penetrate the night of gloom where the grave engulfs all of human life, were not that eart is bereft to add to heavens joys. Death is but the birth to eternal life!

Luella was born in Polk Co., Oregon, August 22d, 1865. She moved with her parents, when quite young to Umatilla County, and remained in the vicinity of Pendleton and in that place, until her death.

The healthful atmosphere of a Christian home blessed her early years. like many others who will sing the everlasting son of redemption, and shine with the blood washed forever, she had reason to praise the Lord for praying parents. Those prayers bore her up to God, as the river of death carried her away from the mortal shores.

We believe that this dear life was a joy to many. She had a large circle of young friends whose tears were poured without affectation at her grave. O, how unexpectedly was she taken away from their circle. They left her in the silent grave where all must soon retire from earth. The sympathy of the many friends of father and mother Lee, both in Western and Easter Oregon, is extended to them in this their great affliction; and may the grace of a blessed Savior sustain them in life and bring them home to their children saved in heaven.
