Mrs. Rebecca Cox, a native of Knox County, dropped in her yard in Newark about 12:30 Friday afternoon. She was found by Mrs. Lloyd McSorley, the wife of her grandson, lying in the back yard near the door to her home.
She had evidently been cutting grass for her chickens having in one hand when found a pair of scissors and in the other a handful of grass. Mrs. Cox was 74 years old.
Funeral services at the Newark Baptist Church Sunday afternoon were conducted by the Rev. Walter Reppenhagen. Burial was in the Newark I.O.O.F. cemetery by the grave of Mrs. Cox's late husband, Howard Cox, who died seven years ago.
Surviving Mrs. Cox are 3 sons and 3 daughters: Mrs. Stella McSorley and Emmett Cox, Newark; Will Cox, Quincy; John I. Cox, Paris, Mo.; Mrs. Lena Kidwell, Santa Clara, Calif., and Mrs. Fay McSorley Salt Lake City, Utah. A brother, Jap Plunkett of Fowler, Ill.; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive.
As Rebecca Plunkett, a daughter of John and Mary Plunkett, Mrs. Cox was born in Knox County March 12, 1859. She married Mr. Cox March 30, 1876, and to them were born the children mentioned as surviving.
Mrs. Cox united with the Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age and transferred her membership to the Newark Baptist Church within the last year.

MRS. BECKY COX.
Our community was saddened by the sudden passing of one of our much respected friends, Mrs. Becky Cox. She was found dead in her yard by her grandson, Lloyd McSorley. While she had not been feeling so well, her death was a surprise to her friends. She lived alone. Her husband preceded her in death seven year ago. She had six children, three daughters — Mrs. Stella McSorley, lives here; Mrs. Lena Kidwell, of St. Clara, California, and Mrs. Faye McSorley, of Salt Lake, Utah, and three sons — Emmltt Cox, of near Newark; Ray Cox, of near Paris, and William Cox, of Quincy. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the Baptist church, Rev. Walter Reppenhagan conducting. The body was laid to rest in the I. O. O. F. cemetery at Newark.
