Buck Ernest McWherter, 79, of Route 3, Riverbend Community, died Wednesday, May 26, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., after a long illness.

He was a native of Weakley, Tenn., and the son of the late Stonewall J. and Victoria Webb McWherter. He was married to Hazel Duvall McWherter, of Macon County, was retired from Uniroyal Tire Company, in Detroit, Mich., a veteran of World War II, and a member of Junaluska Lodge in Franklin.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Eugene McWherter, of Shreveport, La.; four brothers, Evan McWherter, of Watervliet, Mich.; Travis McWherter, of Akron, Ohio; Basil McWherter of Dresden, Tenn.; and Launis McWherter of Palmersville, Tenn.; two sisters; Mrs. Lillie Simmons of Dresden, Tenn.; and Mrs. Mattie Cloer of Martin, Tenn.; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 28, at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel, and burial was in the Iotal Cemetery. Rev. Lloyd Fish was the officiating minister. Pallbearers were: Robert McWherter, Jerry McWherter, Daniel McWherter, Wayne McWherter, Ernest Childres and Marlin Combs.
Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or one's favorite charity.
