Here is a "sliver" of info from rootsweb about William Perkins:

Pottawatomie County is an original Oklahoma County, established in 1891 from Pottawatomie-Shawnee Lands. The county seat is located in Shawnee, Ok.

Payton Perkins owned a saloon in Avoca, OK in Indian Territory (Grandpa EC believes this is the town) and they had come from Arkansas.

There was a wagon full of some men that were coming to his saloon to cause trouble. Another person ran ahead to tell Payton what was fixing to happen, that they were coming to wreck the place. Payton said that it wasn't going to happen so he waited out in front of the saloon for the men to arrive. He shot once over their head. He then shot and killed one man and wounded another.

Grandpa E.C. says that there is a history book that talks about this account. Pottawatomie County History
