He fought in the Battles of Bull Run, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, The Wilderness, and Petersburg. He was wounded on July 3, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg. After the War he returned to Craig County.
