Carey, Hurschel, Wesley, 92, loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 26, 2013.

For the last 4 years he put up a courageous battle with health issues and always kept a smile in the face of adversity. At the same time he was the strength of the family.

Hurschel was born October 20, 1921, to Frank James and Nevada Florence (Lathrom) Carey in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Humboldt High School and also attended trade schools. He served his country during World War II and received a purple heart and a bronze star. He married Virginia Pauline Warwick on March 15, 1946, in Coffeyville, Kansas. Hurschel retired as a superintendent from natural gas and oil pipeline companies which took him and his family to Kuwait Asia, Alaska and all across the United States. After retirement he owned and operated H & C Trucking Company. He also obtained his private pilot's license.

His survivors include his son Bob Carey; daughters and their husbands, Sherrie and Howard Johnson and Tammee and Randy Yates all of Augusta; daughter-in-law, Tina Carey of Anthony, Kansas; a brother and his wife Harry and Betty Carey of Chanute, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Mary Carey of Humboldt; three grandchildren, Michelle (David) Carr, Kevin and Justin (Emily) Carey; four great-grandchildren, Contessa, Austin, Katie and Chris and one great-great-grandchild, Alexis Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father R.D. Sellers; spouse, Virginia; son, Harry Dean Carey; sister, Ruth Vaughn and a brother, Cecil Carey.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 1, from 3-5 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m. both at Gracepoint Assembly of God Church, 3626 North Ohio in Augusta. Interment Monday at 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas.
