Betty died peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, at Odyssey Hospice in Houston. She was born August 27, 1930 to Peter and Hulda Fischer at Colome, SD. Betty was married to Melvin on July 31, 1949. She loved her family and craftwork. She was a nurse and patient caretaker for 25 years. In their retirement, Betty and Melvin worked building church facilities for Laborers for Christ from 1994 to 2004.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, two sons: Dwayne Marvin and David Michael Drath, and one sister: Marjorie Joan Taggart. She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years Melvin, sons Dennis Drath, Craig Drath and his wife Katharine; five grandchildren: Christopher Drath and his wife Kelly, Jennifer Vanderlip, Anthony, Abigail and Alexander Drath; four great-grandchildren: Brandon, Ashley, Logan, and Rhiannon Drath; sister Violet Kaiser of South Dakota and brother Vernon Fischer of Arizona; God-daughter niece Janet Kaiser and many other nephews, nieces and friends.
Her final resting place will be Forest Lawn Cemetery of Omaha, Nebraska, alongside her infant son. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty's memory to Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
