Lawyer and Judge, William P. Houston is the son of Rev. Samuel Rutherford Houston and Margaret Parks Paxton. Samuel was a second cousin to General Samuel Houston. He married twice, first to E.J. McClung on 27 Apr 1871. They had a daughter Martha (unknown dates). Wife E. J. passed on 25 Dec 1873 and he married second to Hannah M. Barclay on 16 Nov 1875. No known children by second marriage.

On the 1850 Union, Monroe, Virginia (later WV) census, I found O.S.P. Preacher, Saml Houston, 44; Margaret P, 33; Rutherford R, 14; WILLIAM P, 7; Saml A, 5; Adamantins C, 3 and Mary M, 1, all VA born.

On the 1860 Union, Monroe, VA census, I found Samuel R Huston, 54;
Margaret P, 43; Ruesford R, 24; WILLIAM P, 17; Samuel A, 15; Aconnis, 13;
Mary M, 11; Helen A, 9; Bessie M, 7; Jannet H, 5 and James R, 2, all VA born.

On the 1870 Union Twp., Monroe Co., WV, I found clergyman Saml Houston, 64; Margrett Houston, 53; attorney WILLIAM P Houston, 27; Edgar S Houston, 25; Curay A Houston, 23; Mary M Houston, 21; Ellen F Houston, 19; Elizabeth Houston, 17; Jennett H Houston,1 5; James B Houston, 12; Hubert T Houston, 9 and Robert Pack, 14, all WV born, except first 3, in VA.

On 27 Apr 1871, single lawyer WM. P. Houston, 28, born and living in Rockbridge Co., VA, the son of S.R. Houston and M.P. Houston, married Miss E.J. McClung, 33, born and living in Rockbridge Co., the daughter of J.W. McClung, and M. McClung, J.W. Pratt officiating. She died on Christmas day in 1873.

On 16 Nov 1875, lawyer WILLIAM P. Houston, age 33, born and living in Rockbridge Co., VA, the son of S.R. Houston and M.P. Houston married Hannah M. Barclay, age 35, born and living in Rockbridge Co., the daughter of A.F. Barclay and M.E. Barclay, James A. Waddell officiating.

On the 1900 Lexington, VA census, lawyer WM P. Houston, 57, Apr 1843, married 24 years to wife Hana M., 60, Dec 1839, no kids, reside with Ne? (nephew?) Paxton Barclay, 13, Oct 1886 and boarder Wm Patton, 33, Oct 1866, all VA born, except Paxton, born in AL.

On the 1910 Lexington, VA census, I found corporation court judge WILLIAM P. Houston, 66, married 34 years to wife Hannah M., 70, she had no children, both VA born. They live on White Street near photographer Michael Miley.

He graduated from Washington & Lee University. His father Rev. Saml Houston did also and was appointed as a Trustee in 1791 and vacated office in 1826. He was a CSA Lieutenant Artillery, Hon. Wm. P. Houston, was the Judge of the County Court of Rockbridge County, VA. In 1892, Judge Houston printed and circulated his 16 page compilation called the Rockbridge County, Va, Paxtons.
