Joan Garfield 1941-2013

Our beloved sister, aunt and friend, Joan Garfield, passed away November 24,2013, in her home after a long illness.

She was born November 3, 1941 in Murray, Utah to Northrop Enniss and Celestia Ann Smith Garfield.

She spent her growing up years helping with the farm work along with her brothers and sisters. She attended Draper Park School thru the sixth grade. Mount Jordan Jr. High, and then graduated from Jordan High School in 1960.

Her work years consisted of many occupations, she worked at Snelgroves Ice Cream factory, Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company, before going back to school at BYU for 1 1/2 years. She worked as a Kelly Girl doing data entry work for awhile, and then in 1968 she started working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a key punch operator, and she moved up in that position with the Information and Communications department until she retired.

She has been a faithful and active member of the LDS Church all her life, serving in all the auxiliaries with a variety of callings.

She had many health problems in her life and endured much pain. She never complained and always accepted the necessary help graciously.

She had a great sense of humor, and if someone came to cheer her up, they always left being cheered themselves by her, as she was aware of other people's needs and tried to help in any way that she could. She always participated in any humanitarian projects being conducted, both in her LDS Ward and in the community and gave generously She was meticulous in her housekeeping and always knew exactly where everything was. She enjoyed cooking and baking and would always share what she made. Her hobbies included trying quilts with her sisters, she loved to grow beautiful flowers, and she was an accomplished seamstress, sewing a lot of her own clothes in her earlier years.

She is survived by brothers, Earl J (Vauna)Garfied, Sandy, and Jr.(Alexis) Garfield, Draper and sisters, Anne Covington, Beth (Lloyd) Sutcliffe, Draper, and Mary (Harold) Daw, Sandy. She is also survived by many nieces, Nephews that loved her dearly. Predeceased by her parents and sister Ruth Gordon and brother-in-law Justin M. Covington.
