He was in a relationship secondly to Francis M Wilson. They later married 9 Aug 1875 at Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. Once their relationship began they mainly lived in the area of Bibb County between Zebulon Road and Tucker Road.
Before the war he worked as a farmer and an overseer. He owned two slaves in 1860, a 65 year old fugitive black male and a 50 year old female.
On 6 December 1860, he was part of a secession committee along with with A.F. Redding, H.H. Howard, Sterling Tucker, and George Tucker in the Howard Georgia Militia District. That committee recommended Washington Poe as a delegate for the state secession convention.
After the war, he and his family lived on land belonging to his wife near Foster and Zebulon Road.
