THE LATE PHILLIP SCHWAB.

Phillip Schwab was born in Wayne county, New York, September 6, 1843. He passed away at his home in Exeter, January 15, 1929, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 9 days.

He was the son of George and Magdalena(Studor) Schwab. When a small child, his mother passed away. His father died in 1880.

At the age of twenty-one he left New York state and came west, locating for a few years in Michigan and Illinois. He came to Fillmore county, Nebraska, and filed on a homestead, two miles west of Exeter, in October 1871. In partnership with his cousin, Jacob Pflug, they operated a sawmill near Blue Vale, for five years.

June 7, 1876, he was married to Malissa Whitaker. To this union ten children were born, Emma and Rose dying in infancy. His wife passed away February 10, 1893, leaving eight small children. George died a year later at the age of thirteen years, and Charles Phillip died April 18, 1922. Seven of the children grew to appreciate the sacrifices made for them and the loving care bestowed on them.

In 1910 he moved to Exeter where he spent the remaining years of his life, enjoying his family and friends. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Lyons, N.Y., April 5, 1857. He was a member of the Modern Woodman lodge.
