Practiced Here For 42 Years

Dr. Oliver Wardlaw Leonard, who practiced medicine here for 41 years, died suddenly yesterday morning at his home, 258 W. Hampton Avenue.
The 68 year-old physician was born in Reidville, the son of the late James D. Leonard and Mrs. Louise Bennett Leonard. He graduated from Wofford College in 1898, and received his medical degree years later from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Leonard was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church, the Spartanburg County Medical Association, and a number of fraternal organizations.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. from the J.F. Floyd Mortuary with the Rev. J. F. Lupo officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Garden.
Pallbearers will be Frank Rogers, Sheriff B.B. Brockman, Leon Patterson, W. K. Child, Gabe C. Hall Jr., Lewis M. Bailey, O.L. Bradley and J. W. Plyler.
All members of the Medical Association have been asked to meet at the funeral home 15 minutes before the service as honorary pallbearers.
Other honorary pallbearers will be J. J. Cudd, J. L. Murph, E. N. Matthews, W. G. Willard, A.M. Chrielzbert, P.J. Kennedy, H. T. Shockley, Sam Watt, J.E. B. Bennett, Dr. H.L. Crook, McD,L. Kennedy, John A Law, T.B. Thackston, and J. T. Robinson.
Dr. Leonard is survived by his widow, Mrs. Connie Jones Leonard; 2 daughters, Mrs. T. G. McLeod of Norfolk, Va., and Mrs. John A. Law, Jr. of Spartanburg; one brother, Roy E. Leonard of Spartanburg; one sister, Mrs. George Briggs of Spartanburg; and 3 grandchildren, Cornelia Louise Law, Jane Adger Law, and Carolyn Elizabeth McLeod.
