Duane C. Cuvelier, 77, of Waterloo, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Duane was born March 14, 1936 in Clarksville, Iowa, the son of Virgil & Catherine (Hartema) Cuvelier. He married Marjorie Hulbert April 17, 1953 in Clarksville and they later divorced. He married Shirley Odem September 12, 1975 in Lancaster, Missouri.

Duane was a former mayor and policeman in Shell Rock, Iowa and also was employed at John Deere & Company for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He played in several local bands including the Hootenanny's and the Rebels.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cuvelier of Waterloo; three sons, Mike (Pat) Cuvelier of Keenesburg, Colorado, Steve (Karen) Cuvelier of Shell Rock, and Dean (Lynn) Cuvelier of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Linda (Scott) Turner of Waterloo, Kathy Cuvelier of Waterloo and Kimberly Schuler of Waterloo, eighteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren; two brothers, Keith Cuvelier of Aplington, Iowa and Darwin (Deb) Cuvelier of Utah; and two sisters, Sandra (Robert) Ohrt of Charles City and Bonnie (Jim) Frerichs of Cape Coral, Florida.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Sonya Cuvelier; and two brothers, LaVerne Cuvelier and Jerald Cuvelier.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at Dahl-Van Hove Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service time Friday at the funeral home.
