GEORGIA, Vt./ WINOOSKI, VT. - Allen Raymond Shangraw Sr., age 83, of Georgia, Vt., formerly of Winooski, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17th 2013 at the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington, Vt.

Allen was born on January 13th 1930 in Burlington, Vt., he was the son of Clifford Jay and Beatrice Ruth (Wells) Shangraw.

Following graduation from Burlington High School, at 20 years old, Allen began a 35-year career with the Vermont Army National Guard and the Vermont Air National Guard, retiring at 55 years old as a helicopter mechanic.

After retirement, Allen and his wife, Shirley, bought a camper and enjoyed camping and traveling.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, country music, and he loved helping family with all sorts of projects.

He took a short sprint at stock car racing, and was a former champion Gold Glove boxer, winning in both lightweight and featherweight divisions.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lillian, in 1969; his wife, Shirley, in 2013; sister, Audrey Taylor; and brother, Clifford Shangraw.

Arrangements by the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Services on 132 Main Street in Winooski, Vt.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 23rd 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery on North Avenue in Burlington, Vt.
