Mary Jane Hicks, 94, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at an Abilene nursing center. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in the Hawley Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan, under the direction of Girdner-Brown Funeral Home, 111 Elm, Abilene, TX.

Ms. Hicks was born December 20, 1906, in Hill County near Grandview, TX. She moved to Rotan from Hill County in 1919 and married Charlie D. Hicks on July 20, 1922 in Rotan. She moved to Hawley in 1958. Ms. Hicks was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawley.

Survivors include four daughters, Ila Goodrum of Levelland, Carol Howard and her husband, Ray, of Abilene, Empress Bagwell and her husband, Austin, of San Antonio, Leila Smith and her husband, Larry, of Abilene; four sons, C.D. Hicks and his wife, Willadean, of Hawley, Jessie R. Hicks and his wife, June, of Abilene, George Hicks and his wife, Sherry, of Hawley and Thomas Hicks and his wife, Darlene, of Hawley; a sister, Vera Morrow of Rotan; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie D. Hicks in 1991; a son-in-law, Phillip Goodrum in 1995; and two grandsons; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter as infants.
