He had been nearly blind with erysipelas (strep eye) It is not know whether he died on the boat and his body put overboard, or if he fell or perhaps jumped into the river. His brother Tilman, was serving in the same regiment and was on the same boat. Lenson and Nancy had 17 children, several who died young.
