Funari , Fred J. 66
Greensburg

Fred J. "Chip" Funari, 66, of Greensburg, peacefully returned to the Lord after a courageous year-long battle with Leukemia on Thursday, June 7, 2012, with his loving family by his side. Chip was the devoted and beloved husband of Josie (Zahorchak); loving father of Bryan "B.J." (Dana), of Greensburg, Brad (Mira), of Murrysville, and Jenny (Kris) Anderson, of Pittsburgh; brother of Cathy (Terry) Lennon, of Raleigh, N.C., Carol (Dennis) Radkowski, of Greensburg, and Bob (Sue) Funari, of Gettysburg. He was the adoring Pop-Pop to Liliana, Emerson, Lucia, Norah, Zoe, Benjamin and Molly. Chip will forever be remembered as an adoring uncle, friend, mentor, teacher and coach. Chip lived his life in service to his family, country and community. A retired probation officer and an Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam and at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Chip was a longtime baseball and softball coach and umpire. In his retirement, Chip remained committed to serving his community as a court appointed special advocate with CASA of Westmoreland County, mentoring his former players and students and teaching at local universities. Chip was as passionate about sports as he was his family. He loved playing golf with his children and friends and was tirelessly dedicated to all things Black and Gold. In 2010, Chip was honored as a distinguished alumnus by St. Vincent College, his alma mater, where he received his bachelor of arts degree. He also held a master of arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was a proud alumnus of Greensburg Central Catholic High School. Chip found great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, vacationing with family and socializing with his numerous friends. Friends and loved ones will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, (an authorized remembrance provider) 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace Church, 1011 Mt. Pleasant Road, Greensburg. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. Terence L.
