He married Magdalena "Lena" Kirpes in St. Donatus, Iowa on October 18, 1887.
They had 13 children.

1937 Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. John Sebastian Tritz:
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Tritz and their daughters, Bernadette, Marie and Nell, and their son, Richard, have returned from Dubuque, Iowa, where they joined in the observance of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. Tritz's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Tritz. All of the venerable couple's eleven surviving children, together with their husbands and wives and 28 of their 49 grandchildren were present for the occasion, which was the first complete family reunion of the parents and the Tritz brothers and sisters in eighteen years. The aged pair were recipients of many useful and beautiful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Tritz also visited with Mrs. Tritz's mother, Mrs. Gertrude Thielen, and other friends and relatives.
